QDB Invests in Multiverse Computing to Support Regional Expansion from Doha in €500 Million Funding Round

Qatar Development Bank (QDB) has announced a strategic investment in Spanish artificial intelligence company Multiverse Computing as part of the company's €500 million Series C funding round, which values the company at €1.5 billion, securing its position among Europe's newest AI unicorns.

The investment was announced during a signing ceremony in Doha, where QDB joined an international investor consortium co-led by Forgepoint Capital International, BNPP Solar Impulse Venture Fund, and Bullhound Capital.

As part of the partnership, Multiverse Computing will establish its Middle East regional headquarters in Doha, positioning Qatar as its regional base to serve customers and technology partners across the Gulf and the wider Middle East. The move is expected to strengthen Qatar's technology ecosystem while supporting the country's vision of building a diversified, knowledge-based economy powered by advanced technologies and artificial intelligence.

Founded in Spain, Multiverse Computing develops advanced AI models that improve efficiency through proprietary model compression and architecture optimization technologies. Its solutions reduce computing costs and energy consumption while accelerating inference performance, enabling AI models to operate directly on edge devices without relying entirely on large-scale cloud infrastructure.

The company also provides technology that compresses third-party AI models, allowing organizations to deploy more efficient and sovereign AI systems.

Abdulrahman bin Hisham Al Suwaidi, CEO of Qatar Development Bank, said the investment reflects the ambitions of the Startup Qatar Investment Program to attract high-growth technology companies capable of strengthening Qatar's innovation ecosystem.

He added that establishing Multiverse Computing's regional headquarters in Doha will create new opportunities for partnerships, knowledge transfer, and regional commercial expansion while supporting the objectives of Qatar's Third National Development Strategy 2024–2030.

Enrique Lizaso, Co-Founder and CEO of Multiverse Computing, said: "The partnership will accelerate the company’s expansion across the Middle East, describing Qatar as an ideal regional base thanks to its strategic location and growing focus on sovereign AI."

The investment is part of the Startup Qatar initiative, led by Qatar Development Bank to attract international technology companies to establish and expand their regional operations from Qatar.

Since its launch in 2024, the program has invested in more than 40 startups from 15 countries. Earlier this year, during Web Summit Qatar 2026, QDB announced plans to expand the Startup Qatar Investment Program with a target portfolio of QAR 1 billion by 2030.
