Oman Investment Authority Expands Global Innovation Investments Through Partnerships with Cambridge Innovation Capital and Oxford Science Enterprises

The Oman Investment Authority (OIA) has strengthened its position within global innovation ecosystems by investing in startups focused on healthcare technologies, applied sciences, and quantum computing through strategic partnerships with Cambridge Innovation Capital and Oxford Science Enterprises.

The move aligns with the authority's strategy to support advanced technologies, facilitate knowledge transfer to the Sultanate of Oman, contribute to building a knowledge-based economy, and generate long-term returns for the Future Generations Fund.

Through its partnership with Cambridge Innovation Capital, OIA has gained exposure to companies emerging from the University of Cambridge, including CMR Surgical, a developer of robotic surgical systems, and Pragmatic Semiconductor, which specializes in low-cost semiconductors for Internet of Things applications.

The investment portfolio also includes Riverlane, which develops quantum error correction software, and Immutrin, a company focused on immunotherapies for heart disease and other medical conditions.

Through its investment in Oxford Science Enterprises, the authority has also gained access to companies commercializing research from the University of Oxford, including Quantum Motion for quantum processor technologies, Refeyn for biomolecular analysis, Osler Diagnostics for portable diagnostic devices, and Oxford Quantum Circuits, a developer of quantum computing systems.

The head of the authority's private investments sector said that advanced technologies have become a key driver of economic, scientific, and social growth, emphasizing that investing in innovative companies enables Oman to keep pace with global developments while creating new opportunities to transfer expertise and advanced technologies to the Sultanate.

He added that these investments support Oman's technology ambitions while targeting sustainable returns from fast-growing sectors with significant long-term potential.
