Lucky App: From a Cashback Platform to a Leading Digital Financial Services Platform

Lucky App has evolved from a consumer-focused platform offering discounts and cashback into one of Egypt’s notable fintech companies, building a broader ecosystem around credit, payments, rewards, and digital financial services. Founded in 2018/2019 by Momtaz Moussa and Ayman El Essawy, the company set out to combine everyday spending with accessible financial solutions through a single digital experience.

From Rewards to Financial Services

Lucky initially gained traction by giving consumers access to discounts, cashback rewards, and shopping offers through its mobile platform. This consumer-oriented approach helped the company build a substantial user base while creating a foundation for its expansion into financial services.

Rather than positioning credit as an isolated financial product, Lucky integrates financing into users’ everyday purchasing activities. The platform allows eligible customers to access credit solutions while continuing to benefit from discounts, rewards, and offers across participating merchants.

Today, Lucky describes its platform as serving more than 13 million users, reflecting the scale it has achieved within Egypt’s rapidly developing fintech ecosystem.

Building a Broader Credit Ecosystem

As Lucky expanded beyond rewards, credit became an increasingly important part of its business model. The company has developed credit products and payment solutions designed to give consumers greater flexibility in managing purchases and expenses.

This transition represents a significant shift in Lucky’s positioning. What began as a platform centered on helping consumers save money has gradually developed into a broader financial technology ecosystem designed to help users spend, borrow, manage, and save more conveniently through digital tools.

Strong Investor Backing

Lucky’s growth has attracted significant attention from investors in the fintech sector. In 2022, the company raised $25 million in a Series A funding round led by Nclude, with participation from investors including PayU, Endeavor Catalyst, Venture Souq, Arzan Capital, and Disruptech Ventures, alongside existing investor Lorax Capital Partners.

The funding supported Lucky’s expansion and strengthened its ability to develop and scale its credit offerings.

In April 2026, Lucky announced a further $23 million Series B funding round, with participation from Disruptech Ventures, DPI Venture Capital through Nclude, Suez Canal Bank, and OneStop. The new investment is intended to support the company’s credit expansion, infrastructure development, regulatory readiness, and broader growth across North Africa.

Expanding Beyond Egypt

Lucky’s ambitions increasingly extend beyond the Egyptian market. The company is pursuing opportunities across North Africa, seeking to replicate its digital financial services model in markets where consumers and businesses are increasingly adopting fintech solutions.

This regional strategy comes as Lucky moves beyond its original cashback proposition and works toward becoming a more comprehensive financial platform.

The company has also outlined a strategic direction toward building a platform capable of operating as a neo-bank, signaling its ambition to expand its range of digital financial products and become a more integrated part of users’ financial lives.

A Look at Egypt’s Fintech Transformation

Lucky’s journey reflects a broader transformation taking place across Egypt’s financial technology sector. The company demonstrates how a startup can begin with a relatively simple consumer proposition—helping people find better deals and earn cashback—and gradually build a much broader financial ecosystem around its customer base.

With a large user community, fresh investment, expanding credit capabilities, and ambitions across North Africa, Lucky is entering a new phase of growth. Its next chapter will likely focus on expanding access to credit, strengthening its technology infrastructure, developing new financial products, and establishing a stronger regional presence.

From a cashback and rewards application to an emerging digital financial platform, Lucky’s evolution illustrates the growing potential of Egyptian fintech companies to reshape how consumers access and interact with financial services.
