Chamath Palihapitiya Raises $135 Million for 8090 Labs and Takes the CEO Role

Chamath Palihapitiya has announced that his AI coding startup, 8090 Labs, has secured a $135 million Series A funding round, marking a major milestone for the company as it expands its enterprise-focused AI software development platform.
The round was led by Salesforce Ventures and included participation from Jeffrey Katzenberg’s WndrCo, David Sacks’ Craft Ventures, fellow All-In podcast hosts David Friedberg of The Production Board and Jason Calacanis of Launch, along with angel investors including Palo Alto Networks CEO Nikesh Arora and Quora CEO Adam D’Angelo.
Founded in January 2024, 8090 Labs develops AI-powered coding solutions designed specifically for enterprise engineering teams. Its flagship product, Software Factory, enables developers to build production-ready software with AI while providing enterprise-grade controls, including audit trails and governance capabilities required by corporate environments.
Alongside the funding announcement, Palihapitiya revealed on X that he will assume the role of Chief Executive Officer, transitioning from his previous position as a board member.
Reflecting on the move, he said:
“Since I left Facebook, I was waiting for a moment like this to return to a full-time operating role. I am convinced that what we are building now is even more important, so there was no decision to make except to be all in.”
He also compared today's AI wave to the early rise of social media during his time as an executive at Facebook, expressing confidence in the significance of what the company is building.
