brainjo Raises €2M to Advance VR-Based ADHD Therapy

brainjo, a Regensburg-based digital health startup, has secured €2 million in Seed funding to advance the clinical study and regulatory approval of its first VR-based digital therapeutic (DiGA) designed for children with ADHD.

The round was led by High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), with participation from strategic partners and business angels, including Andreas Weinhut and better ventures.

The company focuses on developing digital health applications that complement—not replace—traditional psychotherapy by addressing critical gaps in care delivery. Its solutions can be prescribed by therapists or physicians and reimbursed by health insurance, offering patients immersive, personalised, and scalable therapy experiences accessible from home.

Markus Wensauer, co-founder and CEO of brainjo, said:
“With a strong network of business angels, MEDICE – The Health Family as a strategic partner, and HTGF as a leading European seed investor, we are ideally positioned to bring our solutions into healthcare and establish multimodal therapy offerings for patients,”

Dr Jörg Traub, Principal at HTGF, added:
“Digital therapies in psychotherapy are still in their early stages, but the potential is enormous. What differentiates brainjo from purely software-based solutions is the depth of immersion enabled by Virtual Reality, a clinically relevant approach that we will substantiate with study data and use to improve adherence,”

The funding will be used to support clinical studies and regulatory approval efforts for the company’s VR-based ADHD therapy, developed in collaboration with MEDICE – The Health Family, with market approval targeted for 2028.

The therapy leverages virtual reality to translate everyday tasks—such as homework—into immersive experiences, enabling children to practice real-life challenges interactively. Its visual design draws inspiration from popular games like Fortnite and Minecraft to enhance engagement.

Founded in 2022, brainjo previously raised €1.05 million in pre-Seed funding, along with €650K from European and federal sources, and currently operates with a team of 10 professionals across technology, psychology, and healthcare.
