Bingo Enters Kenya with E2 Electric Vehicle, Battery-Swapping Technology and Local Assembly Plans
California-based electric vehicle startup Bingo has officially launched operations in Kenya, introducing its E2 electric vehicle for the ride-hailing and last-mile delivery sectors.
The company is targeting commercial drivers with a model that combines an urban-focused electric vehicle, swappable batteries and charging infrastructure, aiming to reduce downtime and lower operating costs compared with conventional petrol-powered vehicles.
Bingo officially introduced the E2 during an event at Delta40 Venture Studio in Nairobi, attended by partners, investors and industry stakeholders. The company’s leadership, including CEO Daniel Huang and COO Christian Scheder, presented its strategy for Kenya and outlined plans to develop an electric mobility ecosystem around commercial drivers.
Kenya is one of Bingo’s first major African markets alongside South Africa, with the company citing the country’s renewable electricity generation, supportive policy environment and growing electric mobility sector. The startup ultimately aims to serve a wider market of more than 10 million ride-hailing drivers across emerging economies.
E2 Combines Fixed and Swappable Batteries
The Bingo E2 is a compact four-seat electric vehicle classified as an L7e heavy quadricycle and designed primarily for commercial urban transportation.
Its battery architecture combines a fixed battery with four swappable battery modules, providing a claimed total driving range of up to 440 kilometres.
Drivers can exchange depleted battery modules for charged units in approximately two minutes, reducing the amount of time vehicles need to remain off the road for charging.
Bingo believes the approach can help address range concerns while improving vehicle utilisation for ride-hailing and delivery drivers who depend on keeping their vehicles operational for extended periods.
E2 Reservations Open in Kenya
The Bingo E2 is now available for reservation in Kenya at an estimated price of approximately KES 1.8 million, with initial vehicle deliveries expected during the fourth quarter of 2026.
The company claims that combining electric driving efficiency with rapid battery swapping could significantly improve driver profitability compared with operating conventional petrol vehicles.
Rather than focusing exclusively on selling electric vehicles, Bingo plans to develop the supporting infrastructure needed to enable drivers to operate the E2 throughout the working day.
Building a Battery-Swapping Ecosystem
Christian Scheder, Co-Founder and COO of Bingo, said the company’s strategy involves building a complete ecosystem around drivers rather than simply supplying vehicles.
Its infrastructure plans include a network of battery-swapping stations, DC fast chargers and roadside battery support services across Kenya.
Bingo plans to import an initial batch of vehicles before beginning local assembly in December 2026, starting with approximately 100 units.
The startup aims to have around 1,500 vehicles operating in 2027, before increasing its fleet to approximately 10,000 vehicles by the end of 2028.
Backed by Mobility Investors
Bingo is backed by investors including Trucks Venture Capital and Delta40, alongside several family offices.
The company was founded by Daniel Huang, who previously created mobile accessories brand mophie, together with a team focused on developing electric mobility solutions for commercial drivers.
Bingo is entering an increasingly competitive African electric mobility market alongside companies developing battery-swapping and commercial EV infrastructure, including Spiro, Arc Ride and Ampersand.
With its Kenya launch, Bingo is combining purpose-built electric vehicles, local assembly and battery-swapping infrastructure as it seeks to establish a scalable electric mobility model for ride-hailing and delivery drivers across Africa and other emerging markets.
