Newzoo: Global Gaming Market Earns $182.7B in 2024 — Falling Short of Projections, But Mobile Surges Ahead
According to the latest Newzoo report, the global video game market generated $182.7 billion in 2024, recording a +3.2% year-over-year growth. However, this figure came in below initial projections, which ranged from $187.7B to $189.3B earlier in the year.
Mobile games dominated the market with revenues reaching $100.3 billion, marking a 5.5% increase compared to 2023. Console games saw a decline of 2.5%, dropping to $43.5 billion, while PC games grew modestly to $39 billion (+4.4%).
The Asia-Pacific region led in regional performance, accounting for 47% of the market’s total revenue, followed by North America with 28%. The report attributes part of this growth to the release of high-profile titles like Black Myth: Wukong and the return of Blizzard games to China, which reinvigorated Chinese gamer engagement.
Looking ahead, Newzoo forecasts steady growth, projecting:
- $188.9 billion in 2025
- $196.2 billion in 2026
- $201.4 billion in 2027
Despite underperforming forecasts, the global gaming industry shows resilience, especially in mobile and emerging Asian markets.
