Zama, a Paris-based cryptography company specializing in fully homomorphic encryption (FHE) for blockchain applications, has raised $57 million in a Series B funding round led by Blockchange Ventures and Pantera Capital. This latest round brings Zama’s total investment to over $150 million, with its valuation now exceeding $1 billion.

The company previously secured $73 million in a Series A round backed by Multicoin Capital and Protocol Labs, underscoring growing investor confidence in the future of encrypted blockchain computing.

Zama’s protocol enables developers to build fully encrypted decentralized applications (dApps) without requiring advanced knowledge of cryptography. By leveraging FHE, data remains encrypted even during processing — a critical feature for applications requiring maximum privacy and security, such as blockchain, AI, healthcare, and defense.

The Series B funding will support the mainnet launch of the Zama ecosystem, drive further adoption of its protocol, and fuel continued research and development, including the creation of a hardware-accelerated chip to dramatically improve FHE performance.

Key Highlights:

  • Use cases for Zama’s protocol include private stablecoin issuance, asset tokenization, private authentication, and on-chain governance.
  • Zama’s FHE technology has improved 100x in performance since launch, now supporting hundreds of transactions per second (TPS) using GPU acceleration.
  • The startup’s long-term goal is to reach tens of thousands of TPS through specialized hardware.
  • Zama’s public testnet is now live, opening the door for wider experimentation and integration.

Zama’s innovation positions it at the forefront of secure, privacy-preserving blockchain infrastructure — a crucial area as decentralized applications become more data-intensive and regulatory environments emphasize confidentiality.
