The Transport General Authority (TGA) of Saudi Arabia has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Uber Technologies to introduce autonomous vehicles in the Kingdom.

The signing was held under the patronage of H.E. Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Chairman of TGA’s Board, as part of efforts to adopt cutting-edge technologies and promote smart mobility in line with Saudi Vision 2030 and the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Rumaih bin Mohammed Al-Rumaih, Acting President of TGA, and Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, during the Saudi-US Investment Forum in Riyadh, with the presence of key representatives from relevant government entities.

TGA announced that the first autonomous vehicle rides will be launched via Uber’s platform before the end of this year, initially including onboard operators to support safety assurance. The initiative aims to leverage Uber’s ridesharing network and work with self-driving vehicle technology providers to expand consumer access to autonomous mobility services.

This strategic collaboration aligns with Vision 2030’s objectives for the future of transport, aiming to drive a bold transformation in Saudi Arabia’s economy, infrastructure, and mobility sector.

The deployment of self-driving vehicles will complement the existing transport infrastructure and accelerate the rollout of seamless mobility solutions for both residents and visitors.

Safety remains a top priority for both TGA and Uber. Through this partnership, a robust regulatory framework will be developed to ensure the safety of users while enabling smarter, more efficient transport services across the Kingdom.
