DoorDash’s Acquisition of Deliveroo Strengthens Its Middle East Presence

DoorDash (NASDAQ: DASH), one of the world’s leading local commerce platforms, has officially acquired 100% of UAE-based Deliveroo, a major player in the on-demand food delivery sector, in a strategic deal designed to accelerate DoorDash’s expansion across the Gulf and Middle East and strengthen its position in one of the fastest-growing digital delivery markets globally.

The acquisition is expected to enhance the delivery experience for over 7 million active customers, while introducing new digital tools for approximately 178,000 merchants and service providers. Additionally, over 130,000 riders will benefit from improved support, enhanced safety measures, and more efficient delivery processes as part of DoorDash’s broader regional growth strategy.

In an open letter, Tony Xu, Co-Founder and CEO of DoorDash, described the acquisition as “the beginning of a new chapter, not the end of an old one,” reassuring customers that “the Deliveroo app and products you know and love aren’t going anywhere.” Xu emphasized the company’s commitment to leveraging DoorDash’s global scale and technology to “serve more people, in more places, with greater impact.

The letter further highlighted DoorDash’s vision for each key stakeholder group: consumers can expect a faster, smarter, and more delightful user experience; merchants will gain access to powerful new tools to help their businesses thrive online and offline; and riders will benefit from stronger support and safety frameworks to make deliveries easier and more secure.

As part of the transition, Miki Kuusi, Co-Founder of Wolt, will become the new CEO of Deliveroo while continuing his role as Head of International at DoorDash. Kuusi will relocate to London to lead the company into its next phase of growth.

Founded in 2013, DoorDash now operates in over 30 countries, connecting consumers with the best of their neighborhoods and empowering local businesses with advanced commerce solutions. Deliveroo, also founded in 2013, works with 178,000 restaurants and retail partners and 130,000 riders across nine markets, including the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Singapore, and the UK.
