Umm Al-Qura University, represented by its Intellectual Property Administration, has obtained a license for the “Intellectual Property Incubator and Accelerator” from the Small and Medium Enterprises General Authority (Monsha’at). This milestone strengthens the university’s role in supporting researchers and innovators and safeguarding their intellectual property rights.
Dr. Ghaidaa Al-Sulami, Supervisor of the Intellectual Property Administration, explained that the incubator will focus on fostering patents, registered works, and trademarks by offering specialized consultations, training workshops, and business planning for development and commercialization. She highlighted that the incubator will work on transforming innovative ideas into applicable prototypes, paving the way for their licensing and transfer to the university’s investment arm, Wadi Makkah Technology Company, or to other sectors, thus enabling broader opportunities for growth and expansion.
Dr. Al-Sulami further noted that obtaining the license from Monsha’at falls within regulatory frameworks that guarantee the protection of intellectual property rights and align with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 to build a knowledge-based economy driven by creativity and innovation. She emphasized that the accelerator seeks to link intellectual assets with investors and markets, ensuring their transformation into competitive products and services that contribute to sustainable economic development.
