Abu Dhabi-based AI company G42 has partnered with global tech leaders — OpenAI, Oracle, NVIDIA, SoftBank and Cisco — to launch a major artificial intelligence compute cluster named “Stargate UAE”.

The initiative, witnessed by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, aims to develop a 1-gigawatt compute cluster located within the recently established 5GW UAE–US AI Campus.

According to G42, the project will also be developed in collaboration with Cisco and Japan’s SoftBank Group, enhancing the technical infrastructure required to power advanced AI systems.

Compute clusters like this provide the resources needed for training AI models, processing vast data sets, and delivering high-performance outputs.

Peng Xiao, Group CEO of G42, described the project as a “significant step” in strengthening UAE–US technology partnerships, aimed at bringing the benefits of AI to economies, societies, and people worldwide.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said Stargate UAE is the first major milestone in the OpenAI for Countries program.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang praised the project as part of the UAE’s bold vision for using advanced technology to fuel economic growth and global leadership.

Oracle Chairman and CTO Larry Ellison called Stargate “the world’s first platform” allowing UAE’s government and business institutions to connect their data with the most powerful AI models.

G42 also signed multiple major deals during the same week:

  • A partnership with World Wide Technology to support the UAE’s ambition to export AI solutions.
  • A collaboration with France’s Mistral AI to build next-generation AI platforms and infrastructure.
  • A strategic alliance with MGX (Abu Dhabi AI investment company), NVIDIA, and French firms to build Europe’s largest AI campus.

Additionally, G42 is expanding into the United States, having signed a preliminary agreement with Cisco to explore nationwide AI infrastructure development.

Louis Napoletani, CEO of Mottli, said G42 is central to Abu Dhabi’s vision to become a global AI powerhouse by developing sovereign capabilities and fostering an innovation ecosystem.
