The Ministry of Transport, Communication and Information Technology, in partnership with the Ministry of Labour, signed a collaboration programme with the Indian company “Kaynes Semicon” to establish a company specializing in very-large-scale integrated (VLSI) circuit design in the Sultanate of Oman.

This collaboration aims to enhance Oman’s position as a regional center for advanced technologies, focusing on semiconductor design innovation and the development of national cadres.

Kaynes Semicon will implement a 12-month qualification program, funded by the Ministry of Labour, to train 80 Omani engineers in semiconductor design techniques to qualify them to meet future labor market requirements. The company commits to transferring global knowledge and standards in this field to Oman.

This cooperation comes as part of the Ministry of Transport, Communication and Information Technology’s efforts to implement the digital industry program under the National Program for Digital Economy, which aims to attract international technology projects to increase the digital economy’s contribution to GDP, localize technology, employ qualified Omanis, and enhance the competitiveness of Omani youth in the semiconductor sector.

The programme was signed by:

  • Dr. Ali Amer Al Shidhani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communication and Information Technology for Communications and Information Technology
  • Salim Musallam Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour for Human Resources
  • Raju Panicker, CEO of Kaynes Semicon

Dr. Ali Amer Al Shidhani stated that signing this programme is an important step toward building an integrated sector in the semiconductor industry, which is a fundamental pillar of the global digital economy.

He added that the center will serve as a regional focal point for semiconductor chip design operations relying on qualified and trained national cadres equipped with the latest advanced technologies.

Salim Musallam Al Busaidi said the signing is part of the Ministry of Labour’s efforts to qualify national cadres to meet digital labor market requirements and promote innovation and economic diversification. He confirmed that the Sultanate has achieved significant accomplishments in its modern renaissance.
