Arab Open University (AOU) concluded its inaugural Startup Competition 2025 at its Riyadh campus, celebrating student-led innovation. HRH Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed bin Talal presented awards to the winners, marking a milestone in the university’s commitment to nurturing entrepreneurship aligned with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 for a knowledge-based, innovation-driven economy.

First place went to Jadwalna, an AI-powered tourism platform that delivers personalized experiences across Saudi Arabia, while offering smart marketing and payment tools to service providers.

Second place was awarded to Sakina, a culturally grounded mental health initiative using AI to offer continuous support and relevant wellness resources.

Eco Bin secured third place and received the highest public vote, introducing a smart waste-sorting solution that promotes sustainability through automated material detection and recycling.

During his speech, Prince Khaled expressed his admiration for the university, calling the visit “a return to a second home” and praising the late Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for his foundational role in AOU’s creation.

Founded as a visionary initiative by Prince Talal in 1996, the Arab Open University became a reality in 2002 through collaboration with the Open University in the UK. It was established as a non-traditional educational institution designed to drive scientific, social, and cultural progress.

Finalist projects showcased a wide range of impactful technologies, including AI-based queue management, non-invasive drug detection devices, emergency communication tools for non-verbal users, afforestation mapping, virtual reality communities, assistive technology for the visually impaired, and platforms connecting innovators with investors.

Through initiatives like the AOU Startup Competition, AOU reaffirms its role as a launchpad for young talent and a catalyst for entrepreneurship in the region.
