In a groundbreaking partnership, NVIDIA, OpenAI, and the United Arab Emirates have announced a strategic agreement to develop one of the largest artificial intelligence training data centers globally, located in Abu Dhabi.

The ambitious project will be executed by the UAE-based AI leader G42, chaired by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE’s National Security Adviser.

The data center campus will provide 5 gigawatts of computing power, fueled by the latest AI chips supplied by NVIDIA.

As part of the deal, NVIDIA will deliver 500,000 advanced AI chips annually, starting this year, enabling powerful AI workloads and training capabilities.

This supply is critical to supporting the AI initiatives led by OpenAI, which is set to become a key tenant at the campus, aligning with its mission to promote “democratic AI” technologies among U.S. allies and provide alternatives to Chinese AI systems.

The agreement comes amid easing of U.S. export restrictions on advanced chips, a move welcomed by Emirati officials eager to accelerate their AI ambitions.

Howard Lutnick, U.S. Commerce Secretary, described the deal as “a major milestone in achieving U.S. AI dominance,” while Sheikh Tahnoon emphasized the project’s role in “strengthening the UAE’s position as a hub for cutting-edge research and sustainable development.”

The UAE also committed to investing $1.4 trillion in the U.S. over the next decade, reinforcing the strong partnership between the countries in advancing AI technology and infrastructure
