The Department of Finance (DOF) in Dubai has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with global cryptocurrency platform Crypto.com, enabling the payment of government service fees using stable digital currencies through secure digital wallets.

The agreement was signed during the Dubai FinTech Summit held at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).

The MoU was signed in the presence of:

  • H.E. Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti, Secretary General of The Executive Council of Dubai
  • H.E. Abdulrahman Saleh Al Saleh, Director General of Dubai’s Department of Finance

Signatories:

  • Ahmad Ali Meftah, Executive Director of Central Accounts Sector at DOF
  • Mohammed Al Hakeem, General Manager of Crypto.com UAE, licensed by Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA)

This initiative supports the Dubai Cashless Strategy, which aims to transform Dubai into a fully digital society. Once the required technical integration is complete, individuals and businesses will be able to pay their service fees through Crypto.com’s digital wallets, with instant conversion into AED and secure transfer to Dubai Finance accounts.

The strategy is projected to add at least AED 8 billion annually to Dubai’s economy by accelerating fintech innovation and broadening the digital payments ecosystem.

H.E. Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti stated:
“Dubai continues to advance through coordinated efforts across government entities and key sectors… by deploying the latest secure financial technology solutions that support its cashless strategy, streamline government transactions, and foster innovation in financial services.”

H.E. Abdulrahman Saleh Al Saleh added:
“We take great pride in Dubai Finance’s pivotal role… to elevate Dubai’s global standing in digital payments.”

Eric Anziani, President & COO of Crypto.com:
“We are proud to be selected to support Dubai’s Department of Finance… with the first comprehensive government-wide implementation of payment digitisation.”

Amna Mohammed Lootah, Director of Digital Payment Systems Regulation:
“This marks a groundbreaking initiative, enabling government service users to pay all government fees through digital currencies—an unprecedented step in the global financial landscape.”

This partnership further cements Dubai’s global leadership in embracing emerging technologies and demonstrates its commitment to fostering sustainable, tech-driven economic growth.
