IXI, the Espoo-based smart eyewear startup, has secured €32.2 million ($36.5M) in Series A funding to accelerate the development and commercialization of its breakthrough innovation: the world’s first autofocus glasses — IXI Adaptive Eyewear.
Led by Plural, the funding round attracted participation from Tesi, byFounders, Heartcore, FOV Ventures, Tiny Supercomputer, Eurazeo, and existing backers like Amazon Alexa Fund, Maki.vc, First Fellow, firstminute capital, and Bragiel Brothers.
IXI aims to redefine eyewear as a tech-enhanced lifestyle accessory rather than just a medical device. Their intelligent glasses use real-time, ultra-low-power eye tracking and dynamic lens technology to automatically adjust focus, ensuring crystal-clear vision in every scenario — all within a sleek, wearable design.
CEO and co-founder Niko Eiden stated:
“Eyewear is the world’s oldest wearable, yet we’ve seen little innovation in how we correct vision. The time for change is now. We’re ushering in a new era in vision tech, powered by investors who recognize the size of this opportunity.”
Founded in 2021 by Eiden and Ville Miettinen, IXI builds on their prior success with Varjo, the mixed reality company trusted by astronauts and nuclear plant operators. This new venture stems from their frustration with the limitations of traditional progressive lenses.
The funding will bring IXI’s dynamic eyewear closer to consumers and help the company disrupt the $200 billion global eyewear market with a new product category that works as naturally as human eyes were meant to.
