Bahraini foodtech startup, Calo, has announced its expansion into the UK through the acquisition of two local meal delivery brands, Fresh Fitness Food and Detox Kitchen, as part of its international growth strategy.

According to media sources, Fresh Fitness Food’s customers will transition to Calo in May, while Detox Kitchen’s integration will follow later this month. Clients will move to Calo’s platform with similar meal plans to ensure a seamless experience.

This expansion comes shortly after Calo secured a $25 million Series B funding round, led by Nuwa Capital, with participation from STV and Khwarizmi Ventures, valuing the company at $250 million.

In a statement to The Grocer, Ahmed Alrawi, founder and CEO of Calo, said:
“The UK is a key market for us. The integration of Fresh Fitness Food and Detox Kitchen strengthens our foundation in the UK with two highly respected brands whose values align perfectly with Calo’s mission.”

Calo selected the UK as its first international destination beyond the GCC due to time zone alignment, a shared language, and a strong cultural fit.

Additionally, Calo plans to expand further into Europe and the United States.

Founded in 2019 in Bahrain, Calo has expanded its operations to Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, and Qatar, delivering over 10 million meals by 2024.
