Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) and Microsoft have announced an expanded partnership to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) across Adnoc’s entire value chain while supporting the global growth of Microsoft’s AI and data centres.
The expanded agreement will also involve Masdar and XRG, which are tasked with developing sustainable energy projects and infrastructure to drive the expansion of Microsoft’s AI and data centres, Adnoc said on Sunday.
Adnoc and Microsoft will co-develop and embed AI agents to enable autonomous operations and enhance efficiency, further expanding Adnoc’s use of AI across its operations.
Dr Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Adnoc’s Managing Director and Group CEO, Executive Chairman of XRG and Chairman of Masdar, stated:
“As AI continues to reshape how value is created and enhanced across industries, Adnoc, Masdar and XRG are not only embedding AI into every layer of our operations – we are also advancing the energy systems that will power AI itself.”
He added, “Through our partnership with Microsoft, we are unlocking new opportunities to fuel the future of AI, drive greater performance, and future-proof our business.”
A recent Powering Possible report, released by Adnoc and Microsoft, revealed that one in five energy companies is now using agentic AI to automate complex decision-making, and approximately 88% of executives believe AI has a very positive effect on the energy sector, describing the relationship as “symbiotic.”
The agreements were announced at the Enact Majlis in Abu Dhabi, ahead of ADIPEC, which starts Monday. At the same event, Adnoc signed deals with US start-up Gecko Robotics to explore robotics and AI applications across its operations and to train Emirati professionals.
